There are 4 key points to remember when creating your party look:

1. Colour
Drape your table in a dramatic cloth to add drama and interest to your arrangement.
Use rich fabrics such as velvet in vibrant colours like gold, silver, red or green.
Use contrasting colours for dramatic effect; a gold plate against a red cloth creates a rich, 'Christmassy' look. Add interest to a white cloth with a coloured table runner across the centre.

2. Height
Bring your table to life by transforming it from a flat, empty space. Add height by using vases filled with tall, floral displays. Add a table centrepiece of candles and flowers that will drape down as well as scenting the room beautifully.

3. Light
A table does not have to be fully lit; adding a collection of delicate tea lights and candles in coloured glasses will light the area cosily and provide just enough soft light by which to eat.
Using candle light provides a gentle glow that is more flattering on the skin than a harsh over-head light.
Use up-lighters, which bounce the light off the ceiling to create more soft light without causing shadows.

4. Detail
What you add to your table can make all the difference. Layer table cloths to create a luxurious look. Add a light sprinkling of table confetti to add interest or to complete your theme.
Use goblets or unusually shaped glasses in place of standard wine glasses to add to your look.
Use square plates to create a very different look to your usual round, white plates. An ice sculpture will attract interest or why not serve your ice cream or drinks from a bowl made of ice?

Make an ice bowl
It's so easy and yet it looks spectactular!
Here's how to do it -
You'll need two bowls, one slightly larger than the other. Place the smaller bowl inside the other and fill the space between the bowls with water. To create a floating in water effect, float rose heads, petals or confetti into the water. Place in the deep freeze and leave for two days. Once frozen, to remove the outer bowls simply float them off in a little tepid water.

To use your ice bowl on the night
The ice bowl will take around 24 hours to fully melt so you won't have to worry about it disappearing during your party. It will, however, drip, of course, as the ice melts, so it's best to place the bowl in a deep tray to save your carpet from getting wet. If you plan to use the bowl to serve drinks or ice cream from then a bucket and carefully concealed suction pipe will help to keep your servings from being watered down.
